Cackalacky Cup mountain bike festival


	For 2008, we are going to build on the successful new format of the 2007 Cackalacky Cup. We have taken input from our guests of the past seven events to make this year the best ever. Neal Boyd, of Charlotte Sports Cycling, has come aboard to help us grow the event. Neal had been the largest cycling promoter in the Charlotte region for years due to the high caliber events that he puts on. With all of the changes, a new name was in order, hence the Cackalacky Cup. While the roots of the word Cackalacky are obscure, it has become a nickname of affection for those of us from the Carolinas. Each year, we invite special guests who usually have roots that go deep into the history of mountain biking. As we confirm our 2008 guests, we'll post them here. Previous guests have included Ross Shafer, Paul Thomasberg, Capt. Dondo, Paul Sadoff, Jacquie Phelan, Joe Murray, Maurice Tierney, Richard Cunningham and Otis Guy. 	Friday, 2009 Open house at First Flight Bicycles. Come browse our extensive collection of vintage bikes and parts while registering for the Saturday events. 	Saturday, 2009 Itusi Trail @ Lake Norman State Park Join us for the time trials at The Itusi Trail! There will even be separate categories for those brave soles on their vintage steeds! Awards will be based on cumulative time of the two events. 9:00 -11:00 AM Technical Time Trial (TTT) on the 4 mile Hawk Loop of the Itusi Trail at Lake Norman State Park. Timed event that will feature several time bonus obstacles (balance beam, slalom and limbo) 11:30 AM -1:30 Mountain Time Trial (MTT) on the 6 mile Monbo Loop of the Itusi Trail at Lake Norman State Park. Go fast! 12:00 -1:00 PM Join us for lunch at the park with guest speakers to entertain you as you eat. 1:00 -5:00 PM For all of you that didn't get enough riding, the Itusi trail will be open. 5:00-8:00: Open house at First Flight Bikes. 	Sunday, 2009 7:30 Meet in the parking lot behind First Flight Bicycles 8:00 Leave First Flight Bikes to head up to the Pisgah Forest area, near Asheville, for 4-5 hours of riding. In 2005 and 2006 we rode in the Davidson River area of the Pisgah Forest. 2007 found us at North Mills River and in 2008, we visited DuPont State Forest. The DuPont ride was cited by regulars as their favorite ride so we plan to visit it in 1009 as well.
