Wes Davidson (owner): Wes received a mountain bike from Santa way back in 1995. Two years after that, he was in looking for a job. It started out as just a couple of days after school and by graduation in 1999, he was working 30 hours a week. After graduation, he picked up full time hours. While working at the shop, he found time to pick up Associates Degree in Computer Programming from Mitchell Community College. Wes has worked on bikes from the late 1800’s and up during his time with M.O.M.B.A.T (mombatbicycles.com)
Wes has a love for building bike trails from back when he first started riding and building trails in his neighborhood to now heading up the trail building effort at Bigleaf Slopes Park. Wes is the current chairman with the Iredell County Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee and current chainman of the Downtown Statesville Development Corporation. Wes leads 3 rides a week and is constantly thinking of new rides to have fun whether on the trails, gravel or road.
Edan Aldridge: (Service manager)
Edan was born and raised in Harrodsburg, Kentucky. Growing up he spent much of his time outdoors, cycling and hiking with his family on an almost daily basis. When he wasn’t doing that he was tinkering with his dad’s old mountain bike and listening to stories of the tours he’d taken it on. Early on he developed a keen interest in the mechanical aspect of cycling, and became enamored with mountain biking as well. His family moved to Charlotte in 2007 and to Mooresville shortly thereafter. During high school he focused on music and began teaching guitar.
After school Edan began working in the service industry and continued to teach music. Having moved to Davidson, he bought an old three speed and began using it to commute to work, before completing his first “bikepacking trip” on it in 2016. The quest to maintain his old bike eventually connected him with his local shop, Spirited Cyclist of Davidson. The timing was right, and he joined their sales team. He spent several years there honing his sales and technical skills and getting to know the local routes and riders. After moving to Statesville in 2017 he began working at First Flight, transitioning into the role of mechanic shortly thereafter.
As service writer and head mechanic at First Flight, Edan seeks to give the best service experience possible, and is just as comfortable prepping your time trial bike for a coming event or servicing your suspension fork as he is reconditioning that old 10 speed you used to put so many miles on back in the day.
Edan is also a Love Valley Roubaix e-bike category winner!
Cole Gleason:(Service tech)
Cole is originally from Swansboro which is a small fishing town located in the Southern Outer Banks of North Carolina. While living in Swansboro he worked at a local marina, assisting in the parts department which originally got him interested in mechanical work, customer service, and his love for the outdoors. After graduating high school in 2017, Cole attended Saint Andrew’s University on a football scholarship and was the team’s kicker for their inaugural competitive season. The following year Cole transferred to the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, graduating in May of 2020 with a degree in Geography with a concentration in Urban and Regional Planning which he eventually hopes to use for helping to build trails and create a better park system for the community. Cole’s love for mountain biking began during his time at UNCC and he spent most of his free time riding with friends in Boone, exploring the parks in the Charlotte area, and riding on the trail system that the University provided. Cole moved to the Statesville area after graduation and is excited to use his skills to provide the best service possible to the customers at First Flight both mechanically and personally.
Levi Baer (Sales)
Born in Little Rock, AR and raised in Hendersonville, NC. Levi grew up exploring the mountains of Western North Carolina on both two wheels and two feet. Levi was first introduced to mountain biking by his dad and got his first taste of it riding the trails of Pisgah and Dupont. After that he was hooked.
Levi attended Appalachian State and while in school he began working at a YMCA summer camp where he ran the summer mountain bike program. In this role Levi taught groups of kids ages 6-16 the basics of mountain biking and took many of them on their first trail rides. Through those experiences Levi found a love for sharing his enthusiasm for cycling and the outdoors.
Levi continues to share his enthusiasm for cycling at First Flight Bicycles and finds just as much enjoyment in helping you prepare for a race as he does in helping you find your first ever bike.
